With Helix of Realism, German painter Simone Haack presents both her paintings, a kind of capillary landscape, and, in an unprecedented way, her own dream notebooks. Since her early days at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts Paris in Pat Andrea's class, she has meticulously continued to record and reproduce her dreams on paper. Like the Surrealists, she abandons herself to dreams as a manifestation of the unconscious, and explores them through painting too. The current paintings by the pupil of Katharina Grosse and Karin Kneffel are an ode to the macroscopic gaze cast on the dreamlike, a reflection on the essence of identity and a journey as tantalizing as it is disquieting.
